Manufacturer leverages environmental efficiencies for employee investment
Landrieu Concrete and Cement Industries (LCCI) sought to be more efficient as an organization and was also dealing with employee turnover. The business was growing, and Renee Landrieu wanted to improve their ability to manage water, energy, and ultimately costs in a more efficient manner. Simultaneously, the business depended upon strong employee engagement and she wanted to attract the best talent in her field.
As a result, the hotel was able divert 50% of their waste, provide special programming to support staff in home-buying, savings, and training opportunities, and implement many projects that reduce energy onsite. Most importantly, hotel leadership was able to truly spend time aligning their intentions with action. Through our manufacturing assessment using the E3 program, LifeCity conducted a waste, energy, lean, and quality assessment with our technical assistance providers. During this process, we discovered major opportunities to be more efficient with vehicle fueling that saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. Furthermore, water efficiency improvements during truck washing operations led to additional savings. Knowing that turnover was costing the company additional unnecessary expenses, we decided to invest the fuel and water savings into team retention plans, including health insurance and other training programs that supported employee well-being.
Together, these findings lead to over 1M in cost savings in a single year, while improving costs related to employee retention. The company was able to reduce their carbon and water footprint, saving energy and water resources.
