LifeCity Validates the Impacts of Beyond Organic in Southern Missouri

In May 2024, LifeCity visited Beyond Organic (BYO), a manufacturer of organic nutraceutical products located in southern Missouri, to validate the impacts of AMCREF Community Capital’s New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) investment in the company. AMCREF’s investment provided working capital to BYO that allowed the company to purchase new equipment and bring a second shift online.

Beyond Organic manufactures organic supplements as one of the few companies capable of producing tablets in a way that is certified to be organic. The company operates 3 sites, all in southern Missouri – its primary production facility and ranch in Koshkonong, another production facility in Mountain View, and a warehouse in Pomona. The company is among the largest employers in Oregon County and Howell County, two sparsely populated rural counties with minimal industry and depressed wages. BYO is creating quality jobs in these communities, while contributing positively to the local environment through regenerative land management practices on its 4,000 acre organic ranch adjacent to its Koshkonong facility.

BYO aims to produce products that benefit human health while also sourcing its products locally and regenerating the environment through its agricultural practices. BYO aspires to source 100% of its ingredients from its ranch in Koshkonong and is gradually building its capacity to do so. BYO’s current outdoor operation includes rotational grazing among cattle and water buffalo to manage the land in a regenerative way and ultimately help the company become carbon negative.

The New Markets Tax Credit program makes projects like BYO’s expansion possible, and the Oregon County and Howell County communities stand to benefit significantly from the increase in quality employment and sustainable manufacturing.
