Christmas Eve Celebration on the Steamboat Natchez

Join LifeCity member Steamboat Natchez for their Christmas Eve Celebration on the Mississippi River. The cruise will feature the delicious holiday buffet and live Jazz music. The cost is $75.00 per person. Boarding will begin at 6:30pm, cruising from 7:30pm until 9:30pm. Reservations are required and holiday attire recommended. First Annual Trailblazer Benefit Night

Come join us for Louisiana Green Corps’ First Annual Trailblazer Benefit Night, a night of fun, food, and entertainment to support our Youth Construction Corps!

Held at popular bar and cultural center, Casa Borrega, this will be an evening to remember! Listen to live music, sample delicacies from Casa Borrega’s authentic Mexican kitchen, and bring your friends to socialize and check out our exciting silent auction and raffle items… just in time for the holidays and all for a great cause!

Join us early for the Patron Party at 6:00pm and be treated to catered food from Casa Borrega and specialty cocktails.  Doors open at 7:30pm for the general public.

Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue headlines the event and will have the whole room moving with their unique country swing style. Margie Perez and the Honey Pots offers up an eclectic mix of Blues, Pop, and New Orleans Funk, and singer / songwriter Pat Reedy will get the evening started with his one man acoustic guitar show. In addition, several Louisiana Green Corps members and alumni will perform original songs and share their experiences gaining skillsets and perspectives on environmental topics through the Green Corps’ job training programs.

All proceeds will benefit Louisiana Green Corps’ Youth Construction Corps, which help local youth gain technical job skills, work adjustment skills, overcome social obstacles, secure a job, and identify resources to help them become successful, contributing members of the workforce and engaged in the community.

Louisiana Green Corps (LAGC) is a non-profit conservation corps and workforce development organization whose vision is to be a social, environmental, and economic change agent for the region. LAGC provides environmental education and career building opportunities for people aspiring to improve their lives and our community.

Oak Street Po Boy Festival

It’s all about the Po-Boy. For one day only, the absolute best varieties of this historic sandwich from culinary artists citywide come together for your tasting pleasure. Po-Boy Fest features dozens of live performances by your favorite local musicians all day long. LifeCity will be at there as well, enjoying the event and representing the Impact Economy. NOLA Green Roots- Kids Pick Dinner

On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, each child (along with a parent) is invited to harvest for the night’s dinner.

The kids will be given a Harvest Basket and “Veggie Money” with which they will “pay” for the greens they gather. With a parent by their side, they can wander the whole OKV garden harvesting anything from carrots to rainbow chard, sweet potatoes, green peas, watermelon, broccoli, eggplant, pumpkin, fresh chicken eggs, and so much more!

All Things Local

The All Things Local radio show is aired on WGSO, 990AM, on Saturdays from 9 to 10am. The purpose of the show is to examine and promote the New Orleans area local economy with a major emphasis  on the local food system. All Things Local also looks at local businesses of all kinds, government policies that affect the local economy, and current events.

Kenner Rivertown Farmer’s Market

Come out and support NOLA Green Roots at Kenner Rivertown Farmer’s Market. Enjoy the beautiful setting throughout the park.

There will be fresh produce and eggs, plants, and crafts on sale. NOLA Green Roots will also have many of its famous sustainable items there.

If you are a NGR member and would like to volunteer at this event, there are 2 shifts available: 7am to 9am and 9am to 12pm.

All participants that are selected will receive a FREE NOLA Green Roots T-shirt!

There is a mandatory orientation for volunteers on Tuesday on Oct 29, 2013 at 3pm.
