Wetland restoration rehabilitates a degraded wetland or reestablishes a wetland that has been destroyed. Wetlands are important for water purification, flood protection, shoreline stabilization, groundwater recharge, and stream flow maintenance. Individuals and groups can participate in wetland restoration through community service with a myriad of local organizations.
Why this Matters
For My Organization
Wetlands are a very valuable ecological resource that must be protected. Because of the role they play in protecting communities from storm surge, every organization and individual benefits from their restoration. Also, organizations benefit from showing their commitment.
For New Orleans
Wetlands are not only a natural resource that needs protection, they provide indispensible protection to New Orleans from storm surge.
