Basic Recycling

Recycling processes used materials  into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling,) by reducing the need for “conventional” waste disposal, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production. We typically recycle: paper, cardboard, plastic, cans, glass (not yet in NOLA), etc. It is also possible to recycle electronics and other materials at specialized sites.

Why this Matters

For My Organization

The benefits of recycling are numerous and include: reduction in waste, potential cost savings, reduction in garbage collection, energy savings, and feeling like a responsible entity in society.

For New Orleans

Recycling is a vital first step to protecting the environment for future generations. For New Orleans, recycling reduces waste in landfills and the need for incineration, saves energy, decreases air and water pollution, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. New Orleanians will be healthier and happier with recycling.
