StayLocal is Greater New Orleans’ independent business alliance, a nonprofit membership organization that connects locally owned, independent businesses with customers, research, and each other. We provide services for independent businesses including promotion and marketing, workshops and events, and advocacy. We also raise public awareness of the benefits of supporting locally owned businesses. StayLocal is proud to host an online directory of over 2800 locally owned businesses in our five parish territory. We serve Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Plaquemines, and Jefferson Parishes. Our boots on the ground approach and grassroots marketing enable us to serve both the business owner and the consumer. We advocate for businesses on policy issues that affect local revenue and daily business operations. For example, we are a founding member of the Louisiana Coalition for E-fair-ness and supported a bill that will regulate the collection of sales tax from large internet-based retailers who sell goods in Louisiana. We also publish original research, for example, in partnership with the Institute for Local Self Reliance, StayLocal publishes the Annual Independent Business Trends Report conveying the most current findings from regional businesses.
StayLocal works to build relationships with community leaders, businesses, media outlets and stakeholders and leverages these partnerships to deliver the greatest possible impact for the benefit of our independent business community.
Our greatest assets are the people we work with everyday. Sharing best practices as well as lessons learned in the spirit of improvement and collaboration will make our organizations run more efficiently and sustainably. Very few successful long-standing businesses are a result of pure luck and there isn’t one perfect way to run a business. Ninety-nine percent of successful business owners have made some mistakes along the way so asking for help or seeking guidance from peers or idols is an easy way to boost your success and avoid common pitfalls. At StayLocal, we don’t know all the answers to the tough business questions, but I guarantee we know someone who does! We are connectors and relationship builders and we are here to serve our small business community.
What’s coming up?
We had over 150 businesses participate in our annual summer campaign last year and we are launching this Business-to-Business feature again this summer starting with Office Hours on May 19th, May 27th, and June 2nd. During Office Hours, anyone can sign up for free one on one consultations with our local industry experts. Their specialties include marketing, social media, accounting, payroll, human resources, technology, commercial real estate, legal services, and more! RSVPs will be required for these much sought after consultations.
After three days of Office Hours, StayLocal will host the only B2B networking event of its kind. Set up a table to show off your services, network with area businesses seeking local service providers, and get inspired by five TED-style talks by area leaders. Information on how to participate will be available in April.
New and improved Social Media Boot Camp will be six sessions this year starting June 12th. Sessions will cover Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for both beginners and intermediate/advanced users. These six sessions are free and open to everyone in the small business community. They will fill up quickly so be sure to sign up for our newsletter and look for the RSVP request in your inbox.
The majority of StayLocal programs and events are free and open to the public. If you own a local business, we hope you will make a free listing on our online directory or better yet, support us by joining as a member for $10/month or $100/year.
