question-markBy Faith Akgun

May is here! Here at LifeCity, that means The Green Natties: 2nd Annual Sustainable Business Awards Ceremony are just around the corner. The Green Natties is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of our green business members on their paths to build a more sustainable New Orleans, while celebrating the sustainability community as a whole. The Green Natties will take place on Thursday, May 30th from 6-9pm at the Eiffel Society. The evening will be filled with live, local music, culinary treats, a silent auction, guest speakers, green libations, and of course, awards. Learn more about the event and click here to buy your tickets.

We are proud to announce this year’s Green Games participants! We have over 60+ businesses and non-profits that have made the commitment to improve their environmental and social impacts, while supporting the Impact Economy in New Orleans. To give you a sense of some of the contestants, meet VertiFarms and Global Green / NOLA Wise:

One contestant, VertiFarms, LLC(formerly known as A.M.P.S.) has developed an urban farming aeroponics operation. VertiFarms has projects set up at five unique locations, including at Hollygrove Market and Farm as well as on the roof of Rouses Supermarket in the Central Business District. By bringing urban planning and innovative farming together, VertiFarms is asking us to reconsider the way we get our food in urban environments.

Global Green / NOLA Wise is another contestant that is bringing sustainability to a variety of New Orleanians. Nola Wise is a program under Global Green USA designed to make homes more energy efficient. On average, the program reduces your energy bill by 12-30%. Nola Wise is also protecting the beloved architectural integrity of New Orleans. They are enlightening homeowners that they can improve the energy efficiency of older homes through a series of improvements rather than demolishing their existing home in exchange for a new one.

The participants have been divided into six categories.  Below is a full roster of this year’s esteemed contenders. Click on each link to check out their Impact Directory profiles to learn more.
