The 1st annual Farm to Table International Symposium will take place August 2-4 at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and willfeature the brightest thought leaders and leading practitioners in the burgeoning farm-to-table movement. The key-note speaker will be Jim Hightower, the former Texas Agriculture Commissioner, National radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and author of the book, “Swim Against The Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow,”. Hightower has dedicated three decades to challenging “Powers That Be on behalf of the Powers That Ought To Be – consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses, and just-plain-folks.”
Farm to Table International Symposium will discuss the cultivation, distribution, and consumption of food and drink sourced locally to globally. Topics will include farming and aquaculture, fisheries, sustainability, social and digital interactive media, food security and safety, food law and policy, food science and GMO, artisanal and slow food and drink, and fair trade.
“With the rich culture and agricultural history in Louisiana, the New Orleans Farm to Table initiatives are models for not only Louisiana, but also the rest of the world to follow. Our producers have a long history of working directly with schools and restaurants to provide what makes our state unique,” said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is endorsing the conference as well as participating in advisory capacity.
