Like many cities across the nation, New Orleans is riding the crest of a growing awareness of the need to better manage our precious natural and social resources. Additionally, however, New Orleans faces unique energy, water, and waste management challenges, especially since Katrina and the most recent environmental catastrophe, the BP Deep Water Horizon oil spill.
Furthermore, our region faces many social and economic challenges, such as workforce development and healthy food access. The Green Games is a program that allows organizations to participate in a fun competition while becoming empowered to take action to improve our community, the value of their business, and the long-term sustainability of our future. We utilize best practices taken from social and environmental standards around the world, and personalize them to our region and context. The process of engaging with individual organizations will us to ensure that businesses that want to go green have the support to do so, and businesses who claim to be green, are truly implementing environmentally responsible practices.
